This test grouping consider antibodies to three types of transglutaminases. Transglutaminases are enzymes that supporting bonding, so they are found naturally and also used commercially in foods (to extend shelf life or increase nutritional values). Tissue Transglutaminase 2 is associated with Coeliac Diseases, fibrosis (thickening of tissues), inflammatory bowel conditions and degenerative diseases, and is best utilised alongside gliadin response when considering gluten reactivity. Tissue Transglutaminase 3 has become associated with Dermatitis Herpetiformis in recent years due to its activity in the epidermis. Both tTg2 and tG3 can be found in Dermatitis Herpetiformis, but those with Dermatitis Herpetiformis are more likely to have an IgA response to tTg3 in their skin. Only a quarter of those positive for tTg3 will show villous atrophy. Tissue Transglutaminase 6 has associations with neural tissue but is expressed generally in mucosal tissue. Antibodies can be found in those with Coeliac Disease, Gluten Ataxis, Cerebral Palsy and Peripheral Neuropathy.
