Glutamine Acid Decarboxylase (GAD) antibodies are associated with Type 1 Diabetes and Latent Autoimmune Diabetes of Adulthood. GAD antibodies are responsible for attacking GAD cells and are reported in 75% of those with Type 1 Diabetes at the time of diagnosis. Anti-GAD antibodies can also be associated with stiff-person syndrome (60% sensitivity). Insulin antibodies can be found in those with Diabetes who have developed immune reactivity to insulin. Antibodies can mean that the effect of insulin can be prolonged and can increase the risk of hypoglycaemia.
